Breathing Techniques for Singers

Welcome to Madeleine Harvey’s “Total Voice Method”, Lesson 8: Maximize Your Breath, Part 2 – The Exhale. This downloadable voice lesson builds upon many of the breathing techniques for singers we covered in Lesson 8: Maximize Your Breath, Part 1 – The Inhale. If you have not gone through Part 1 yet, please download it from our website on your next visit.

Whether you’ve gone threw Part 1 or not, you will still benefit from continuing on with Part 2’s exercises now. The breathing techniques you’ll be learning today will continue to help increase your stamina, calm your mind, and give you more power and consistency when you sing. These really are some of the best techniques you can use to get the most out of your breath with the least amount of effort.

What to Expect in this Voice Lesson

Concentration

The majority of these exercises are best performed with 100% of your attention. To get the most of these exercises, perform them at a time and in a place that will allow you uninterrupted focus.

Application

There will be times within this lesson that will require standing, the use of your hands, or the use of your imagination. Please allow yourself the freedom to do this. The muscle reflexes we are targeting are small and very subtle. This degree of focus allows us to notice small changes in our body as they happen.
